CECILE PLAISANCE
The beginning started with a doll, an icone of fashion and beauty…The biggest names in fashion, Karl Lagerfeld, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Louboutin, Christian Lacroix, Chantal Thomas and many others, paid tribute to her.
Since her childhood, Cécile Plaisance has photographed things she finds beautiful…
Her compositions of Barbies where already the stars in her first snapshots. To make life more light hearted, a reminder of the innocence of our childhoods, of all the little girls who relentlessly dressed and undressed this doll …bringing those soft, innocent memories back to life.
Then as Cécile’s work progressed, she linked « Barbie » to the woman of today, playing with her femininity and taking on many lives at once..beauty icone in magazines , juggling with the real life « Ken » while remaining an accomplished housewife, flirting in her convertible, cheeky at the beach, extactically happy for « Spring break », exécutive woman at the office, autonomous, ageless and in the end…terribly alone.
Barbie, contemporary idole of feminity ?
Unadmitted twinkle to self exploited women.
A little bit of humour for the men in our lives, who want a woman to be a mother, a sister, a friend and a lover while staying sexy and assuming everyday responsabilities..
Over and above the mythe of a woman being an object, Cécile Plaisance strips the idole of our childhoods, supporting the challenges of woman today to defend their rights , their desires and maintain their gained freedom . She transforms the newspaper being read by the woman in a hurry.. not yet adequately dressed, the little black dress worn by the reserved, timid woman, the nuns cloak , the burka of the veiled woman..careful, behind one woman there may be another one hiding !
Over and obove the différences in cultures, clothes , the paths we take , women aspire to live fully and instensely their multi-facited lives . No taliban will stop this desire..
Cécile Plaisance uses a technique of lenticular developping, super imposing images , Barbie appears to undress in fonction of our position in front of the photo.
